Dr. Socas is a board certified plastic surgeon who specializes in all aspects of Plastic & Reconstructive surgery including breast reconstruction, complex microsurgical reconstruction, lymphedema surgery and cosmetic surgery of the face, breast, and body.  He practices primarily at IU Health University Hospital and IU Health Methodist Hospital.

Dr. Socas received his medical degree with highest distinction from Universidad de Buenos Aires, Argentina where he received awards for his scholastic achievement. After graduating, he attended one of the premier General Surgery Residencies at Indiana University School of Medicine under the leadership of Dr. Keith D. Lillemoe.

Following his General Surgery training at Indiana University, Dr. Socas was accepted, out of applicants world-wide, into the Plastic and Reconstructive program at Indiana University under the leadership of Dr. John J. Coleman III, with a strong interest in microsurgical reconstruction. Dr. Socas perfected advanced microsurgical techniques including perforator flaps (DIEP, SIEA, SGAP, IGAP, PAP, ALT, TUG) for treating complex reconstructive problems. He did an International Scholarship at Chung Gung Hospital and China Medical University in Taiwan under the guidance of Ming Huei Cheng and Hung Chi Chen. Currently Dr. Socas is one of the few surgeons in the country performing surgery for debilitating lymphedema, isolated or in combination with breast reconstruction. He has developed unique techniques in the treatment of lymphedema including the vascularized Right Gastroepiploic Lymph Node Transfer for the treatment of lymphedema.

Dr. Socas’ interests include microsurgery, breast surgery and microsurgical breast reconstruction, lymphedema surgery including vascularized lymph node transfers and lymphovenous anastomoses, cancer reconstruction (including head and neck reconstruction, Sarcoma and skin cancer excision/reconstruction, and Mohs reconstruction), complex nasal reconstruction, aesthetic surgery of the face (facelift, rhinoplasty, blepharoplasty, brow lift), breast (augmentation, mastopexy, reduction), and body (abdominoplasty, mommy-make over, body contouring after weight loss), as well as trauma reconstruction (complex lacerations, facial fractures, hand/extremity fractures and trauma reconstruction), complex abdominal wall reconstruction, and wound care/reconstruction.
